Over 500 professionals coming from all over the world are expected to join the Italian "tomato gathering". The theme chosen for this year Congress is "from the field to the consumer plate: working together to shape the future for processed tomato products".
Organized by Amiton (the Mediterranean International Association of the Processing Tomato Experts) and Ishs (the International Society for Horticultural Science), this Congress is meant to offer an occasion where to discuss about "production and consumption forecasts in the different parts of the world, sustainability, tomato growing productivity", as well as about new "strategies for the future promotion and consumption of the tomato products".
Beyond that, technology, sustainability and packaging strategies will be outlined, and a lot of emphasis will be put on the way in which science might help to promote a more efficient use of scarcer and scarcer resources. Accordingly, the organizers have already anticipated that "a series of round table case histories will examine in depth the strategic issues of the sector in all the phases of the line".
It is not a coincidence that the Congress Organizing Secretariat has been assigned to Fiere di Parma, as it is the only Italian trade show with a solid and internationally acknowledged know-how in the food sector, thanks to its long experience with the International Food Exhibition Cibus and all its related events.
Congress participants are also invited to register for the "Post Congress Tour". From the 11th to the 13th of June, it will be possible to visit a tomato-growing farm, a tomato-processing factory and a research centre that will outline the value of the processing tomato sector in this territory.
