Later today, US President Donald Trump will be landing in the Italian Fiumicino airport. This will be the third stop if a Presidential visit that has seen Mr Trump travelling to Saudi Arabia, Israel, and that will end on May 26 in Taormina, Sicily, after the G7 Summit. However, President Trump is not planning to spend three full days in Italy, as on May 25 he will be flying to Brussels to attend the 28th NATO summit.

First Lady Melania, secretary of state Rex Tillerson, the daughter Ivanka and a very numerous delegation are accompanying the US President during his first visit to Italy.

The first person that Donald Trump will be meeting on May the 24th will be Pope Francis, at the Vatican. In the meanwhile, Melania Melania will visit Rome's Bambino Gesù children's hospital, which is a hospital owned and run by the Vatican. Ivanka, instead, will be meeting the representatives of the Comunità di Sant'Egidio in Trastevere, together with a group of women with a past of human trafficking and abuses.

Later in the morning, the First Lady will join her husband for an official visit to the Sistine Chapel and Saint Peter's Basilica. There are many expectations for the bilateral meeting between Trump and the Pope as, according to Chancellor of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences and the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences Monsignor Marcelo Sanchez, the Pope is supposed to pressure the US President to change his mind on climate change.

Once the Vatican visit will be completed, President Trump will be welcomed by the Italian President Sergio Mattarella at the Quirinale, and he will meet the Italian prime minister Paolo Gentiloni right afterwards at the US Embassy Villa Taverna.

Although some anti-Trump protests have been organised in Rome, the US embassy expects the demonstration to be peaceful and predicts about 100 people will show up. Further, high-security measures have been implemented to make sure that everything will go smoothly.
